Thanks to a fascinating twist mechanism the nib slides elegantly out of the barrel. The clip at the same time retracts into the shell. The pen is now ready to write. When the pen is twisted closed a protective ball valve automatically moves in front of the opening and protects the retracted nib from damage and dirt.
